Fort Tilden beach has bikes, topless hipsters, and decaying buildings/rape tunnels. Tough to reach by public transit, but a doable bike ride for those inclined. The surf is rough and current strong, so the dips in the water have to be quick. That’s ok, it helps you avoid sunburn!

Arrive in the afternoon and either park on the road outside the park and walk, or risk it and park in the lot requiring a special fishing permit. We arrived by 4pm on a Sunday in a Zipcar and didn’t get a ticket in the special lot. I drooled over the mountains of beautiful bikes stacked up everywhere, some more cleverly than others.
